BLACKMANTIS is the latest project from Cardiff based producer Deri Roberts, possibly best known for being one-third of Slowly Rolling Camera. This new album sees him delve into his darker electronic side fusing together his love for sound sculpture, electronica, and jazz, the result is an exciting, ever-changing sound world, taking you on a sonic journey into the unknown full of twists and turns.

This album Devil’s Flower sees Deri collaborating with Bristol based Ben Waghorn on saxophone (Portishead, Kasabian, Goldfrapp), and one of his oldest musical collaborators Elliot Bennett on drums. Both met while studying at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and have worked together on numerous musical projects since. Jon Goode (Kosheen) on Bass provides deep harmonic movement with Mark Sambell floating on top with some Glasper esque piano voicings.


Upon listening to this debut album it will come as no surprise that Deri began his musical career as a TV and Film composer, as the music takes you on a journey, evoking powerful imagery throughout. The blend of Sonic landscapes, Dark synths, broken beats, soaring saxophone and intimate keys leaves the listener not knowing what is around the corner.
